Russian forces launched a significant barrage of missiles and drones across Ukraine on August 24, the country's 35th Independence Day, resulting in at least eight deaths and 43 injuries. Ukraine's Air Force reported intercepting a substantial portion of the incoming munitions, including 109 drones and several missiles.
Strikes were recorded in 22 locations, with debris from downed drones and missiles falling in five other areas. In Kharkiv Oblast, two women were killed and six people, including an 11-year-old girl, were injured when drones hit railway infrastructure. The girl was reported to be in serious condition.
Governor Oleh Syniehubov stated that across Kharkiv Oblast, five people were killed and 17 injured in total over the past day. In Donetsk Oblast, two people died and one was injured in Kramatorsk, with an additional six wounded elsewhere in the region. Sumy Oblast reported one fatality and 12 injuries from over 50 attacks on 25 settlements.
Further casualties included three injured in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and three injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. In Chernihiv Oblast, a gas station employee was injured by a drone strike.
