In Sumy Oblast, a two-story residential building was struck by a Russian drone, injuring six residents, including a 16-year-old girl. Governor Oleh Hryhorov stated the building was deliberately targeted. Earlier, high-speed jet-powered drones were reportedly used in three strikes on residential areas in Konotop, Sumy Oblast, contributing to eight civilian injuries in the region.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 135 drones, with air defenses successfully shooting down or suppressing 107. Debris from intercepted drones also caused damage in other locations. The attacks were ongoing as of an 8 a.m. update.
In Donetsk Oblast, Russian attacks killed two people and injured 27. Kharkiv Oblast saw two deaths and nine injuries. Zaporizhzhia Oblast reported one death and 10 injuries, with further casualties from FPV drone strikes and a guided aerial bomb hitting a house. Kherson Oblast recorded one death and 23 injuries.
These recent strikes follow a large-scale assault on Kyiv that killed at least 15 people and injured approximately 40, with an additional two deaths and three injuries from a subsequent daytime drone strike. Kyiv is observing a day of mourning on August 21 for the victims of these attacks.
