Russian forces conducted drone and missile strikes across Ukraine overnight, killing at least two people, authorities reported Saturday. The attacks follow a deadly drone strike on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih on Friday that killed 16 people and wounded 130.
In Kyiv, an overnight ballistic missile attack on the railway system killed Oleksandr Pertsovsky, head of Ukraine’s national rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia, and a Russian Ministry of Defense statement claimed forces hit a locomotive depot. Russia has recently increased its ballistic missile attacks on the capital, reportedly exploiting Ukraine's limited supply of Patriot air defense interceptors.
Separately, drone strikes in Zaporizhzhia killed one person overnight, according to local officials. The attack on Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was described by him as a "double-tap strike," where an initial wave of drones was followed by a second as rescue workers arrived. The UN reported that Kyiv was one of the hardest-hit cities in July, with at least 54 civilians killed and 202 injured.
