At least 14 people were killed and 121 injured in a Russian double-tap drone strike on a shopping center in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, local officials reported. The attack, described by President Volodymyr Zelensky as "cynical and despicable," occurred in two waves, with the second strike reportedly targeting emergency workers who arrived at the scene.
Dnipropetrovsk regional head Oleksandr Hanzha confirmed 14 fatalities and 121 injuries, including 29 people in serious condition. Kryvyi Rih Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul noted that the drones flew at "extremely low altitudes" and that some people were missing and feared trapped in the rubble of the city's largest mall. In addition to the shopping center, blocks of flats, warehouses, a children's hospital, and a school were damaged overnight.
The incident follows Ukraine's announcement earlier on Friday that its military had carried out strikes on an oil refinery and a military airfield deep inside Russia, part of an intensified campaign against Russian energy facilities and other infrastructure deemed to support the war effort.
