Waymo, the autonomous driving technology company owned by Alphabet, is expanding its robotaxi service to include teenagers as young as 13 in Nashville. This initiative, which requires teen accounts to be linked to a parent or guardian, allows young riders to hail autonomous rides anywhere within Waymo's Nashville service area and bring up to three guests aged 13 to 17. The company stated that this is the "first of many" teen launches planned for mature markets where regulations permit.
Nashville is a recent addition to Waymo's operational footprint, with the service launching in a 50-square-mile area in April 2026 and becoming available on the Lyft app earlier this month. This move follows the successful introduction of a similar teen account program in Phoenix last year. Waymo has seen significant growth in ridership, with paid weekly trips increasing tenfold from 50,000 in May 2024 to over half a million earlier this year, driven by expansion into new markets.
