Waymo to launch robotaxi service in Singapore in 2028

U.S.-based robotaxi operator Waymo intends to launch its services in Singapore in 2028, making it the company's first market in Southeast Asia. This move places Waymo into a competitive mobility landscape alongside established local players like Grab and ComfortDelGro. The deployment supports Singapore's strategy to broaden autonomous mobility options for commuters and attract global autonomous vehicle companies. Waymo's autonomous vehicles are slated to arrive in Singapore in the coming months, with manual driving tests scheduled for 2027, ahead of the planned commercial launch in 2028. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will collaborate with Waymo to ensure all operations adhere to safety and regulatory standards, aiming to build public confidence in autonomous vehicles. The Singaporean government also stated its commitment to supporting drivers affected by the transition, promising to help them acquire new skills and find roles within the growing autonomous vehicle sector.
