Google Photos has officially rolled out its AI-powered virtual closet feature, a tool that transforms users' outfit photos into a digital wardrobe. The feature, which draws inspiration from the virtual closet seen in the movie "Clueless," is now accessible to all users in the U.S., Brazil, and India, across both iOS and Android platforms.
First announced earlier this year with a planned summer rollout, the feature initially became available to Android users in June. The technology utilizes AI to replicate a user's wardrobe based on the clothing items featured in their photographs. Users can then categorize items such as tops, bottoms, and jewelry, and experiment with creating new outfits by mixing and matching these digital representations.
Google has stated that the data collected on user dressing habits will not be shared with third parties, such as retailers. The broader release of the virtual closet coincides with other Google Photos enhancements, including Gemini Spark for selecting, brightening, and sharing photos with a single prompt (requiring a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscription in the U.S.), an updated markup tool with a redacting pen and custom sketch options, and new AI-powered Remix templates. Android users will also benefit from new "Moods" photo filters designed to emulate styles like 35mm film and 2000s digicam.
