Alphabet-owned YouTube announced a suite of new features at its annual Made on YouTube event on Wednesday, focusing on artificial intelligence, shopping integrations, and personalized viewer experiences. The updates aim to empower creators and enhance user engagement on the platform.
Among the new creator tools are enhancements to YouTube Studio, offering feedback on video drafts, channel-matched thumbnails, and the ability to test up to three video cuts. A Gemini-powered assistant will be integrated into Shorts and YouTube Create to assist with editing clips, trimming pauses, and syncing music. The platform is also testing opt-in AI comment moderation that can be customized by creators, alongside improvements to its likeness-protection tools that combine voice and facial detection.
YouTube is expanding its shopping capabilities by rolling out its affiliate program to 35 countries by the end of the year, with over 1.3 million creators already participating. Creators in India and Brazil will soon be able to tag Amazon products, and these product tags will display localized offers to viewers globally. For U.S. users, YouTube will introduce Custom Feeds, allowing them to save personalized homepage tabs based on their interests, such as documentaries or DIY videos. The Ask YouTube feature is also being enhanced to include shopping queries and follow-up questions, such as product comparison tables, with voice command support for TV users.
