OpenAI announced on Wednesday that it is bringing voice-based agentic features to the ChatGPT mobile app, enabling users to trigger workflows such as drafting documents or summarizing emails. Subscribers on the Plus and Pro tiers will be able to utilize the Work tab on their phones for tasks like creating documents, drafting emails, or summarizing Slack messages. These premium users can also build websites, create presentations, use the cloud browser, and access financial information within ChatGPT. Free and Go users will receive access to plugins and connected apps. OpenAI stated that ChatGPT's voice conversations will offer enhanced text output, and Plus users will have the flexibility to switch between text and voice input seamlessly. The ability to start a conversation on the go and continue it on a desktop is also being introduced. This feature comes as AI assistants are increasingly used for complex tasks via voice commands. In July, OpenAI released its GPT-Live conversational model and later integrated it into the desktop app, allowing users to perform tasks in the Work tab or build apps in the Codex tab using their voice. The new mobile app capabilities mirror those available on the desktop. Competitor Anthropic has also recently improved the mobile-to-desktop transition and merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces, though OpenAI maintains separate chat and workspace functionalities.
