Meta's new personal AI agent app, Muse, has ascended to the top of the free app charts on the U.S. App Store, overtaking OpenAI's ChatGPT. The app, which launched this month and has been available for a few weeks, has seen a surge in new installs, boosting its ranking.
Muse is designed as an AI agent capable of performing tasks on behalf of users, such as researching, filling out forms, booking reservations, and connecting with various services including email, calendars, and Spotify. Meta states that Muse can remember user preferences and seek approval before executing sensitive actions.
The app's rise to the No. 1 position on the App Store comes a week after its launch, signaling an early success for Meta's strategy in the personal AI assistant market. This follows Meta's expansion of Muse's availability to Mac desktops, though these downloads do not contribute to the App Store ranking.
Other companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are also developing agentic tools, often integrated into their existing chatbot applications. Meta and SpaceXAI, however, have adopted a different approach by treating agentic workflows through casual messaging interfaces with personified characters. Apple has also recently launched its integrated Siri AI with new OS software releases, featuring a dedicated chat app capable of system actions.
According to Appfigures Intelligence, Muse was downloaded onto 1.1 million devices by Friday, primarily in the U.S. While Muse earned an estimated $27,000 after fees in its first 11 days, Grok Bot earned $175,000 in the same period, suggesting curiosity may not yet fully translate into sustained usage.
