A second explosion occurred at the Kent Feed Mill in Sheldon, Iowa, in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026. This incident follows a previous explosion at the same facility on Monday, September 21. Fire crews were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames emanating from the cooler. Assistance was requested from the Sanborn Fire Department and the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team. Firefighters worked for about three hours to remove product and address hotspots. The cause of the explosion and fire is currently under investigation. No injuries were reported, and the damage was confined to the cooler and its contents. Approximately 26 firefighters responded to the incident, utilizing about 4,000 gallons of water. The Sheldon Police Department and the O'Brien and Sioux County Sheriff's Offices also provided assistance.
