Rivian has initiated a recall for approximately 14 of its R2 SUVs, citing a defect where fasteners on the high-voltage battery pack might not be adequately tightened. This issue could result in a loss of power during operation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was informed of the problem on September 17, after a manufacturing operator at Rivian's Normal, Illinois factory observed an under-torqued fastener from an automated station. Rivian has since reprogrammed the station to prevent improper torquing. The company stated it has no knowledge of any customer reports, accidents, injuries, or fatalities linked to this specific defect. This marks the second recall for the R2 model, which began customer shipments this year and is considered vital for Rivian's mass-market strategy and its pursuit of profitability. The previous recall, issued last month, addressed backup camera visibility with a software update.
