Russian forces conducted extensive attacks across Ukraine over the past day, resulting in at least five fatalities and 67 injuries. Drones, including jet-powered variants, reached western regions such as Khmelnytskyi and Vinnytsia, striking enterprises and damaging residential areas. President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the attacks as a new escalation by Russia and emphasized the urgent need for faster European production of defensive systems, particularly air and anti-drone defense.
In Khmelnytskyi Oblast, drone strikes hit an enterprise, causing a fire and injuring a truck driver. A second strike in the same oblast damaged another enterprise. In Vinnytsia Oblast, two women were injured by falling drone debris, which also damaged homes. Odesa Oblast suffered the most casualties, with 17 people injured, including three children, after an attack damaged a residential building and nearby cars.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 163 Shahed-type drones and other aerial targets, with air defenses intercepting 135. Strikes were recorded in 15 locations, and debris from intercepted drones fell in four others. In Kyiv Oblast, a man sustained shrapnel wounds, and damage was reported to warehouses, an administrative building, a shop, kiosks, a house, and a car.
The deadliest attacks occurred in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, where four people were killed and 13 injured by drones, artillery, and a glide bomb, damaging educational facilities, apartment buildings, and cars. Kherson Oblast reported one death and 16 injuries, with damage to residential buildings, houses, an administrative building, and agricultural machinery. Sumy Oblast recorded eight civilian injuries from nearly 40 attacks, while Donetsk Oblast reported six injuries from 37 attacks. Kharkiv Oblast sustained two injuries from missile and drone strikes, and Zaporizhzhia Oblast reported one injury amid 957 strikes across the region.
