Range Rover has officially launched its first all-electric model, the Range Rover Electric, after a year-long delay. The new vehicle, which will be built at the company's Solihull facility in the West Midlands, represents a significant step in Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) electrification strategy.
The launch is supported by substantial investments in new battery and electric drive unit production lines at JLR's Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. The company is also implementing extensive training programs, with approximately 9,000 employees in Solihull and an additional 1,500 across the region being prepared for electrification.
This development occurs as JLR navigates a challenging period marked by falling profits, ongoing supply chain disruptions, and the aftermath of a cyber attack last year. The company is also undergoing a restructuring process, which will result in the elimination of fewer than 300 roles. Martin Limpert, managing director of Range Rover, described the new model as the culmination of a decade of engineering effort.
