Mavi, a startup founded in 2023, has emerged from stealth with an AI-powered talent marketplace designed to address the shortage of AI-proficient accountants in the U.S. The platform connects American companies with global financial and accounting talent, aiming to simplify the complexities of international hiring.
Co-founder and co-CEO Molly Liu stated that the U.S. accounting profession is shrinking and lacks the necessary AI skills for business growth. Mavi aims to bridge this gap by providing access to a global talent pool that Liu believes is comparable to or better than U.S. professionals. The service handles administrative tasks such as cross-border contracts, legal compliance, and payroll.
Mavi focuses on placing full-time, long-term employees, particularly in mid-level and senior roles, to augment existing finance teams. Liu, who previously worked at companies like Ramp, Lyft, and Dropbox, noted that while AI can automate entry-level tasks, it increases the demand for experienced professionals in senior roles who can apply critical reasoning and judgment. She also highlighted the evolving role of an accountant, who now needs strong finance fundamentals combined with the ability to direct AI tools, integrate LLMs, and understand AI-native ERP systems.
The company announced on Monday that it had raised a $4 million seed round, led by Harlem Capital, in the previous year. Mavi currently has over 3,000 accounting professionals on its platform and lists Athena Club as one of its enterprise clients.
