United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) announced on Monday the appointment of Vandad Fartaj as its first chief investment officer. This newly created position will focus on the company's capital markets and investment strategies.
Fartaj brings about 30 years of experience in mortgage banking, capital markets, investing, and finance to UWM. In his new capacity, he will be responsible for leading capital markets initiatives and investment strategies, and will collaborate across the organization on capital strategy and portfolio management.
Prior to joining UWM, Fartaj spent 15 years at Pennymac, where he served as chief investment officer, focusing on investment strategies, capital markets, and the company's expansion. He also previously held the chief investment officer position at CrossCountry Mortgage.
UWM president and CEO Mat Ishbia stated that Fartaj's reputation as one of the best in the business, due to his deep capital markets knowledge, work ethic, and proven track record, made him the ideal candidate. Fartaj expressed his enthusiasm for UWM's growth plans and the chance to develop its investment function, noting the compelling opportunity to build and lead the investment function at this stage.
