Honda Motor has temporarily suspended production at its motorcycle plant in Bangkok, Thailand, due to heavy rains that have caused widespread disruption in the region. The flooding has impacted commutes and logistics for various companies, although Honda's facilities themselves have largely avoided direct damage.
This is not the first time Honda's operations in Thailand have been affected by flooding. In October and November 2011, significant flooding in Thailand led to production suspensions at both Honda's automobile and motorcycle subsidiaries. The automobile production subsidiary, Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (HATC), suspended operations due to parts supply disruptions and flooding at its facilities. Thai Honda Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the motorcycle and power products subsidiary, also suspended production due to parts supply disruptions, even though its property was not flooded. These disruptions impacted Honda's production in other Asian countries and even in Japan due to limited parts supply from Thailand. At that time, Honda was working to procure alternative parts and manage production adjustments in North America, with plans to resume normal production levels in early December 2011.
