Akel, who identifies as a real estate developer rather than a web developer, claims to have personally completed about 90% of the work on the system, collaborating with one web specialist. The platform integrates key business functions including sales, estimating, design selections, purchasing, construction scheduling, field operations, trade-partner coordination, customer communication, and financial visibility.
The initiative was driven by the need to manage the scale and complexity of Akel Homes' operations, particularly following strong demand for its Catalan Palms community, a 1,350-home development that has generated over 200 sales since February. Akel stated that the volume of activity exposed friction in keeping information aligned across departments. The resulting platform functions as a continuously updating operating record for each home, allowing for real-time data to flow directly into the system.
Akel highlighted that the motivation behind the platform is rooted in control and certainty, essential for homebuilders with long lead times from land acquisition to payment. Beyond serving as a system of record, the platform leverages AI to provide business insights. For instance, it can quickly identify which homes are affected by discontinued product lines or pinpoint current bottlenecks in the construction process, tasks that previously could take days to resolve manually.
