Germany links Russian GRU to arson attack near Ukraine-supplying drone maker

German investigators suspect that Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, was behind an arson attack that occurred on September 3 near the Munich offices of defense companies Rohde & Schwarz and Helsing, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The attack involved incendiary devices being thrown from a passing car onto a construction site near the headquarters of the two firms. No injuries were reported, and the damage was minor. Police have detained two Bulgarian citizens, a 28-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, who are believed to be low-level operatives recruited by Russian intelligence for sabotage activities. This incident marks the second suspected Russian intelligence-linked act of sabotage in Germany within a month, following a suspected attack on Leipzig Airport in early August. The events align with a broader trend of suspected sabotage across Europe, which Western officials attribute to Russia. In September, Denmark reported that Moscow was attempting to recruit citizens for sabotage operations against Danish defense companies. Additionally, in late August, Slovak police detained three foreign nationals over an alleged plot to set fire to a Ukrainian-owned factory producing surveillance drones.
