Drone attack reportedly hits Russia's Ilsky oil refinery, sparks fire

A drone attack reportedly struck Russia's Ilsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai on September 26, 2026, with footage shared online indicating a large fire at the facility. Russian and Ukrainian monitoring channels reported explosions in the area overnight. Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratiev confirmed that drones attacked the Seversky district, where the refinery is located, reporting fatalities and one person seriously injured. He also stated that drone debris damaged a residential building and caused fires at two enterprises in the district, though he did not identify the facilities.

Independent Russian outlet ASTRA's analysis of eyewitness footage suggested one of the fires was at the Ilsky refinery. The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claim or assess the extent of the damage. The Ilsky refinery is a significant oil-processing facility in southern Russia, located approximately 500 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory, and produces nearly 6.6 million tons of fuel annually. It has been a repeated target for Ukrainian forces throughout the ongoing war, with ASTRA reporting at least 16 strikes by June 2026. Ukraine's General Staff previously confirmed strikes on June 2 and August 8 that resulted in fires at the refinery.

Krasnodar Krai has increasingly become a target for Ukrainian drone attacks as Kyiv extends its strike range into Russian territory. Ukraine has been targeting Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure to disrupt fuel supplies to its military and reduce revenues financing the war.
