Cristiano Ronaldo to earn from Saudi Pro League streaming initiative

The Saudi Pro League is introducing a new streaming model designed to allow players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, to generate additional income beyond their salaries. Under the 'Share and Earn' initiative, players and content creators can promote livestreams of league matches on their social media platforms and receive a portion of the revenue generated from viewers who access the streams via their shared links.

This move is intended to capitalize on the significant social media presence of players like Ronaldo, who boasts over one billion followers across his platforms. The league aims to broaden its reach and engage with fans through digital channels and trusted creators, shifting from traditional broadcaster-centric distribution models.

Selected publishers will also be able to embed official Pro League content on their own platforms, a model similar to existing partnerships in other leagues. The initiative will be rolled out in 16 territories, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and several European and Asian countries. League CEO Omar Mugharbel highlighted the opportunity to innovate and build new relationships in sports distribution, creating shared value as the league's international audience grows.
