Yamaha Motor is expanding its presence in India's premium motorcycle market with the launch of its new YZF-R2 sport bike. The company aims to capitalize on the growing demand from the country's middle class for higher-priced, technologically advanced two-wheelers. The YZF-R2, which marks Yamaha's global debut in the 200cc segment, is built on a new platform and features a lightweight diamond frame, a 204cc liquid-cooled engine, and advanced components like upside-down front forks and dual-channel ABS. It will compete directly with models like KTM's RC 200. Yamaha expects the new model to contribute significantly to its sales targets, aiming for 11 lakh total units in 2026. The YZF-R2 will be available in three variants, with prices ranging from ₹2.31 lakh to ₹2.53 lakh, and will be offered through Yamaha's Blue Square dealerships starting mid-September 2026.
