Solar power has been the primary driver of this growth, contributing 164.59 GW, followed by wind power with 58.14 GW, hydropower at 57.24 GW, bio-power at 11.75 GW, and nuclear power at 8.78 GW. Collectively, these sources now constitute over 54% of India's total installed electricity generation capacity, which stands at approximately 552 GW.
While the clean energy transition is seen as crucial for India's industrial competitiveness, energy independence, and economic resilience, the nation faces challenges. High clean power curtailment rates are a growing concern due to the slower expansion of grid and transmission infrastructure compared to the rapid growth in renewable energy installations.
