Elon Musk's social media platform X has launched a new feature allowing U.S. users to trade cryptocurrencies and stocks directly from its timeline. The company has partnered with five financial firms: cryptocurrency exchanges Coinbase, Gemini, and Kraken, and stock brokers Interactive Brokers and Moomoo.
The integration expands X's Smart Cashtags, which transform ticker symbols for stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies into interactive pages displaying market information and related posts. When users tap a supported Cashtag, they can view price charts and discussions before selecting a "Trade" option. This action redirects them to a partner platform where eligible customers can sign in or create an account to finalize their trades.
X clarified that it does not execute trades or hold customer assets. Instead, the participating financial companies manage account requirements, order execution, and other trading services. Mridul Singhai, X's Product Engineering Lead, stated that Cashtags "close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself."
In addition to trading integration, X has also enhanced Smart Cashtags with "Big Charts," offering larger interactive charts for assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin, and Tesla. This feature is available on iOS and the web, allowing users to examine price movements within X before proceeding to a trading platform.
X also announced the release of Grok 4.7, its latest AI model, which it described as its most capable for coding and knowledge work, offering double the speed and half the price of its predecessor, Grok 4.6.
