Coinbase has filed to list more than 50 single-stock perpetual futures contracts on its regulated U.S. exchange, a move that would allow traders continuous exposure to major American companies without fixed expiration dates. The proposed contracts, which are subject to regulatory approval, would cover some of the largest U.S. companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Tesla.
Perpetual futures utilize funding payments to keep contract prices aligned with their underlying assets and allow for leverage. Coinbase stated that these products would offer "around-the-clock exposure" and that "Crypto was first, now it’s time for stocks."
The exchange already operates a U.S. perpetual futures market for cryptocurrency products and has expanded its stock trading services internationally, offering 24/5 trading in nearly 4,000 U.S. stocks to eligible customers in the United Kingdom. The filing also comes as Coinbase broadens its traditional finance business, having recently secured Financial Services Permission in Abu Dhabi to develop blockchain-based services for traditional financial assets.
