Crypto exchange Bitget is enhancing its security and transparency measures as it celebrates its 8th anniversary, according to Chief Legal Officer Hon Ng. The platform is evolving from a derivatives exchange into a Universal Exchange (UEX) serving over 125 million users, expanding into markets for crypto, tokenized equities, and commodities.
Bitget implemented its Proof of Reserves (PoR) system in December 2022, releasing monthly data with a minimum reserve ratio of 1:1 and Merkle Tree verification. The exchange's 46th PoR report for September 2026 indicated a reserve ratio of 135%, with an average ratio exceeding 120%. Bitget has also expanded its PoR coverage from four to 19 assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP, to increase user transparency. Ng stated, “As users gain access to more assets and markets, the scope of what they can independently verify should grow as well.”
Beyond reserves, Bitget has established a Protection Fund, launched in 2022 with an initial $300 million. By August 2026, the fund's average amount was approximately $382 million. User protection also includes account security measures like two-factor authentication, FIDO2, and WebAuthn passkeys, alongside withdrawal safeguards and anomaly detection.
This year, Bitget launched its Market Integrity and Token Accountability Framework to track abnormal activity, manipulation risks, and wallet illiquidity. The exchange is also working with BlockSec on a UEX Security Standard covering solvency, risk isolation, privacy, monitoring, and infrastructure defense. Bitget's regulatory growth spans jurisdictions including Argentina, Australia, El Salvador, Georgia, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK. Ng declared, “Growth and responsibility cannot be separated.” Entering its ninth year, Bitget's theme is “Built for Trades,” emphasizing its commitment to security, transparency, and standards.
