Russia's Moscow Stock Exchange (MOEX) is set to launch perpetual futures contracts for Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP, and TRON (TRX) on September 22. This move follows President Vladimir Putin's signing of a new crypto law that permits regulated cryptocurrency trading within the country.
The new contracts will be quoted in US dollars and settled in Russian rubles, with access restricted to qualified investors. MOEX stated that the launch is a significant development for the Russian derivatives market, addressing strong investor demand for digital asset derivatives within the existing legal framework. These futures will not involve the delivery of the underlying crypto assets.
MOEX already offers monthly and other cash-settled crypto derivatives, which have seen substantial activity with over 72,000 traders and a total transaction volume exceeding 600 billion rubles. The new law, effective this month, legalizes licensed crypto trading, custody, and select cross-border settlements.
In separate market movements, Bitcoin prices rose over 1% to approximately $76,600, while Ethereum surged more than 2% to $2,450. Solana also saw gains of over 3%, trading above $100, and XRP reclaimed the $1.30 level. Trading volumes for some of these assets have dropped, indicating caution among traders.
