Elon Musk's X has sued several Bitcoin influencers in a UK court, alleging they defrauded the platform's Creator Revenue Sharing program. The company is seeking the return of at least £207,384, plus damages and costs, after suspending the accounts involved in the alleged coordinated engagement scheme.
The lawsuit highlights X's efforts to combat fraudulent activity on its platform and protect the integrity of its creator programs, potentially impacting how influencers engage with content-sharing initiatives and the financial incentives offered.
Elon Musk's X has filed a lawsuit in the UK High Court against several Bitcoin influencers, including Vivek Kumar Sen and Zamyang Sherpa, alleging they fraudulently benefited from the platform's Creator Revenue Sharing program. X claims the influencers operated a coordinated engagement scheme, posting identical content, liking and reposting each other's posts, and artificially manipulating engagement metrics to obtain at least £207,384.
According to X, the influencers also used multiple bank accounts to hide their scheme. The platform has suspended their accounts and is seeking the return of the funds, along with damages, interest, and legal costs. X estimates its own costs for investigation, analysis, and remediation to be at least £75,000.
James Burnham, general counsel at X, stated that the company "do[es] not tolerate fraudulent behavior on X and will act forcefully to protect our platform and the earnings of genuine creators." This action follows X's suspension of numerous crypto-related accounts in August. Former product lead Nikita Bier had previously alleged that one individual ran over 10 profiles and extracted more than $250,000 from the revenue sharing program over two years, a matter that was reportedly referred to law enforcement.
X has since ended the Creator Revenue Sharing program, inviting eligible creators to apply for the new Original Content Rewards program. The platform continues its efforts against engagement farming and inauthentic networks.
