The total number of active oil and gas drilling rigs in the United States increased this week, according to data published by Baker Hughes on Friday. The overall rig count in the U.S. rose to 603, marking a 56-rig increase from the same time last year.
Active oil rigs saw a gain of six, reaching 462 during the latest reporting period. This figure is 44 rigs higher than a year ago. Conversely, the number of gas rigs decreased by one to 132, though this is still 12 more than this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs remained unchanged at nine.
Recent data from the EIA indicated that U.S. crude oil production averaged 13.979 million barrels per day for the week ending October 2, a slight increase from the previous week and 350,000 bpd higher than a year ago.
Furthermore, Primary Vision's Frac Spread Count, which estimates the number of crews completing wells, continued its upward trend for the fourth consecutive week, reaching 196 crews for the week ending October 2. The number of active drilling rigs in the Permian Basin also rose by four to 274, 24 rigs above year-ago levels. The count in the Eagle Ford remained steady at 49, five more than last year.
