A poll published Oct. 6 indicates that 62% of Ukrainians are prepared to continue enduring Russia's war for as long as necessary, a sentiment that has remained largely stable since late July and early August. This resilience persists despite an increase in Russian attacks utilizing jet-powered drones and strikes on civilian infrastructure during the survey period.
The survey, conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from Sept. 12-21, found that 23% of respondents believe they can continue for several months or up to six months, while 4% are ready for about a year. The remaining 11% were undecided.
KIIS Executive Director Anton Grushetskyi stated that "Despite the intensification of Russian terror against the civilian population — and the fact that our Western partners' response has not always been sufficiently decisive or backed by concrete actions — Ukrainians are prepared to continue bearing the burden of war until an acceptable peace is achieved."
Regarding the war's outcome, 79% of Ukrainians believe Ukraine will ultimately win, with 47% certain of victory and 32% believing Ukraine will prevail. However, this certainty has slightly decreased from late July when 85% believed Ukraine would win, including 60% who were certain. Currently, 7% believe Russia will win, and 14% are undecided.
Furthermore, 69% of respondents would support an immediate ceasefire along the current front line if Ukraine did not legally recognize occupied territories as Russian, continued strengthening its military, and maintained its path toward the European Union and NATO. The poll involved computer-assisted telephone interviews with 1,002 adults in government-controlled regions of Ukraine.
