Thailand declares two-day civil service holiday amid floods

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration had declared the capital a disaster-affected area on Saturday after nearly 300 mm (12 inches) of rain fell over 48 hours, causing significant flooding on major roads. While floodwaters began to recede on Sunday as rainfall eased, some residents remained stranded.

This move could potentially delay a court decision regarding electoral ballots used in February's election, which might cast doubt on the election results. However, the court has not yet announced any changes to the verdict's timing. Important official business scheduled during the holidays may continue as deemed appropriate by department heads.

Deputy minister of agriculture and cooperatives, Wacharaphon Khaokham, stated on Facebook that the holidays would allow people to ensure their safety and that of their families while the government provides assistance. He also noted that toll-free expressway access would be extended through the night of September 29 to facilitate travel and reduce costs.
