Snap Inc. is forging partnerships with major technology companies, including Salesforce, Nvidia, and Amazon Web Services, to bolster its augmented-reality glasses, dubbed Specs. The social media company is targeting enterprise demand to establish a presence in the competitive AR market. Unveiled in June with a price tag of $2,195, Specs is a significant investment for Snap in a category attracting growing interest and investment, despite challenges faced by similar devices like Apple's Vision Pro headset.
To drive sales, Snap is positioning its AR glasses as a solution for businesses requiring hands-free computing in environments outside traditional desktop settings, such as factory floors, retail stores, and field service operations. Salesforce's Agentforce AI platform will be integrated, enabling workers to access company data and automate tasks through the glasses. Nvidia's AI will enable Specs to interpret the user's visual surroundings and retrieve relevant company information, while AWS will provide an AI assistant for voice-activated tasks like checking product availability.
Snap did not disclose financial terms for these partnerships, which also include collaborations with software firms Trifork and Hololight. The charging case for Specs will feature cellular connectivity through telecom partners like Verizon, Orange, and BT Group's EE. Snap also announced its Specs Intelligence AI service and expects shipping for the glasses to commence later this fall in the U.S., UK, and France. Consumers will have the opportunity to try Specs at the Westfield Century City shopping mall in Los Angeles starting in October.
