US electric vehicle maker Lucid Group and European ride-hailing platform Bolt announced on Thursday a partnership to deploy 25,000 self-driving robotaxis across Europe. The collaboration aims to capitalize on the emerging robotaxi market in the region and accelerate the shift from pilot programs to commercial deployment.
Bolt plans to integrate these autonomous vehicles into its fleet, with a broader goal of reaching 100,000 vehicles by 2035. The robotaxis will be built on Lucid's forthcoming Midsize platform and are expected to utilize Nvidia's Hyperion autonomous-vehicle architecture. Both companies will work together to develop a vehicle platform capable of SAE Level 4 automation, allowing vehicles to operate without human intervention within defined conditions.
Bolt will be responsible for the fleet's infrastructure, software, safety protocols, and rider experience, as well as securing necessary city partnerships. The vehicles will be manufactured at Lucid's new facility in Saudi Arabia, which is scheduled to come into operation early next year.
