Russian forces struck the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy on Sept. 29, 2026, with four glide bombs, killing two civilians and injuring three children who were sheltering in a school. The regional governor, Oleh Hryhorov, reported on social media that the two civilians died in their homes in a low-density residential area. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, stating, "Russian terrorists are just complete bastards. To strike children, schools, ordinary houses like that."
Sumy, located near the Russian border and close to the front line, is frequently targeted by Russian drones and glide bombs.
