Russia is putting lives at risk across Europe with hybrid attacks, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Monday. Speaking at a news briefing in Brussels alongside Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, Kallas noted a recent spike in Russian hybrid attacks, sabotage attempts, and airspace violations.
"Russian missiles and drones violated Moldovan airspace again over the weekend. And this is completely unacceptable," Kallas told reporters. This comes after Russia launched an air campaign against Ukraine's energy grid on September 30, hitting power facilities and infrastructure. Moldova's defense ministry reported that three drones had crossed into its airspace on that day.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also warned last week that Germany faced more hybrid attacks from Russia, pledging continued support for Ukraine. German authorities have repeatedly cautioned about Russia's hybrid campaign, including drone and cyberattacks, and have accused Moscow of being behind an attempted drone attack at Leipzig airport in August. Moscow has denied these accusations.
