President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has fallen to a new low of 40.2%, marking the sixth consecutive week of decline, according to a poll released Monday. The survey, conducted by Realmeter for the EKN newspaper, found that 56.9% of respondents gave a negative assessment of Lee's job performance, an increase of 2.8 percentage points from the previous week.
Realmeter cited growing distrust over the government's housing policies, particularly a proposal to build apartments in Yongsan Park, and partisan clashes over Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae's written recommendation of two new Supreme Court justice nominees as reasons for the decline. The pollster also pointed to security concerns following scaled-back military drills between South Korea and the United States, noting a decline in approval among conservative voters and those aged 70 and older.
In a separate poll by Realmeter, support for the ruling Democratic Party dropped 6 percentage points to 41.9%, while support for the main opposition People Power Party rose 4.5 percentage points to 37.6%.
