SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Yonhap) -- Special counsel Kwon Chang-young's team announced Monday it has indicted 58 people, including former President Yoon Suk Yeol, concluding a 180-day investigation into a wide range of allegations. The probe, which began in February, re-examined issues that had not been fully investigated by previous special counsel teams.
The investigation focused on Yoon's alleged failed martial law bid in 2024, corruption allegations involving his wife, Kim Keon Hee, and the 2023 death of a Marine.
Kwon's team indicted Yoon on charges of abusing his power by instructing officials to justify his martial law bid to the United States and other major partner nations. Former National Security Adviser Shin Won-sik and former Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo were also indicted for their alleged roles.
Separately, Yoon's wife, Kim, was indicted for allegedly meddling in a presidential residence relocation project in 2022, accused of intervening to award construction work to an unqualified company.
With the conclusion of its mandate, Kwon's team has transferred 46 cases, involving 150 people, to the police for further investigation.
