A pregnant Palestinian woman and her unborn child were among at least 10 people killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip over a 48-hour period, according to the health ministry in Gaza. The violence continues despite a ceasefire agreement reached in October 2025.
Iman Shalouf, 27, who was nearly eight months pregnant, was shot in the head by Israeli forces while sitting in her family’s tent in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis on Saturday. Paramedics and witnesses reported the incident. Her husband, Ismail abu Mashi, expressed despair over the ongoing violence, questioning the existence of any ceasefire.
Shalouf was taken to Nasser hospital, where her unborn baby’s heartbeat was initially detected. However, both mother and child died a few hours later. Relatives had chosen the name Ayoub for the baby, due in November. Funeral prayers were held for Shalouf and her child, who were buried side by side in Khan Younis.
The Israel Defense Forces stated they were investigating the incident.
The health ministry reported that in addition to the 10 killed and 56 wounded in the 48 hours prior to Saturday, four members of the same family, including two young daughters, were killed when their home in Beit Lahiya was struck on Thursday night. Six other Palestinians were killed in Khan Younis and Gaza City on Friday, with several others injured in attacks across the territory.
Unicef stated that between August 23 and September 2, at least seven children were reportedly killed and five others injured. Médecins Sans Frontières noted that Israeli forces issued evacuation orders and struck a building near one of their clinics.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains severe, with most of the population facing overcrowding, disease risks, and funding shortfalls. Water availability has been reduced due to a temporary halt in desalination, and hospital generators are struggling with fuel and spare parts shortages.
