Baldwin Realtors, a brokerage with approximately 3,500 agents in Baldwin County, Alabama, has completed a significant transition, moving its entire membership from the legacy Paragon MLS system to Perchwell's next-generation platform. This move is described as historic, being the first MLS in over 25 years to undertake such a comprehensive shift for its members.
The transition process involved a three-month parallel operation of both systems and an intensive training program, comprising 135 sessions, with 60 of those held in person at brokerage offices. Perchwell CEO Brendan Fairbanks views this initiative as a catalyst for a needed pace of innovation within the real estate industry.
Fairbanks explained that while older MLS systems were revolutionary in their time, they have largely remained static while other software agents use has evolved. Perchwell's philosophy, he stated, is to continuously improve its product, aiming to be a reliable technology partner for agents. The platform is designed to be a fast, professional tool that adapts to current agent workflows, offering rapid search capabilities, modern client collaboration features, and leveraging MLS data for insights.
He further elaborated that the evolving role of the MLS, traditionally a local data repository, is being modernized through new architectural approaches. Perchwell's core platform can be configured for individual MLS market needs, allowing for deeper localization without the burden of maintaining separate instances for each market. This means agents can expect their MLS software to improve and evolve constantly, becoming a more connected and effective daily tool.
Fairbanks highlighted that the new technology aims to free up agents' time, allowing them to focus more on clients and business. Features like the new Workspaces suite help organize buyer searches and client interactions in a centralized, collaborative space, preventing information from getting lost across various communication channels. The platform is also designed with mobile accessibility in mind, ensuring agents have full MLS functionality whether in the office or in the field.
According to Fairbanks, agents are more receptive to change when they see visible improvements based on their feedback. The collaboration with Baldwin's agents during the development and training phases allowed Perchwell to log concerns and implement enhancements quickly, demonstrating the MLS's ability to keep pace with its community's needs. Looking ahead, Fairbanks anticipates that the biggest change agents will recognize is how their MLS provides an edge over information consumers can find independently, emphasizing the value of agent insight and service built upon accurate local data and cutting-edge software.
