MISMO President Brian Vieaux discusses AI governance and state regulation

He highlighted the Mortgage Compliance Dataset (MCD) as a key initiative. This dataset is designed to allow mortgage companies to create a single file that can be used across multiple state regulators, reducing the burden of compiling data requests for companies licensed in numerous states. This is particularly relevant as AI rapidly impacts various business lines within the mortgage industry, and MISMO is positioned to help the sector navigate these changes.

Vieaux also announced an upcoming December tech sprint with the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, which will involve over 400 attendees collaborating on implementing critical compliance standards. These standards will be further refined at MISMO's Winter Summit in January. He stressed that all lenders should have an interest in this initiative, emphasizing the need for alignment not just between lenders and vendors, but also with GSEs, agencies, and regulators.

In a podcast interview, Vieaux shared his vision for MISMO, focusing on awareness, adoption, and alignment. He noted that many in the industry may not fully appreciate MISMO's value proposition, drawing from his own experience as a lender. He emphasized that MISMO is a community-based organization where volunteers craft solutions to industry-identified problems, and that increased visibility and adoption are crucial for its funding and impact. The goal is to create solutions that are impactful, sustainable, and promote transparency across the entire mortgage ecosystem.
