Japan is set to move the majority of applications for advance screening of foreign investments to an online platform, a transition expected to occur as early as fiscal year 2028. This digital shift is designed to bolster the efficiency of the new Japan Foreign Investment Committee (JFIC), which is facing a swelling volume of cases. Currently, the Finance Ministry manages these applications. The move follows Japan's passage of a tougher foreign investment law, which established a panel similar to the US Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
