Ford is enhancing its BlueCruise hands-free driver-assistance system for the 2027 model year F-150, enabling drivers to use the feature while towing boats, campers, or trailers on compatible highways. This update aims to simplify the towing experience for the F-150, which is America's best-selling vehicle and is frequently used for towing. The system requires drivers to remain attentive and ready to intervene, but allows them to remove their hands from the steering wheel and feet from the pedals on over 130,000 miles of prequalified divided highways in the US, referred to as Blue Zones. Ford stated that 76% of its F-150 customers tow, and the company tested approximately 800 different trailer configurations to ensure the system's functionality. This development brings Ford's towing assistance technology closer to that of competitors like General Motors, which introduced a similar feature in 2022, while Tesla's system disables when a trailer is detected. The towing feature will be included on all BlueCruise-equipped 2027 F-150 models, starting with the XLT trim, at no additional cost to customers with an active BlueCruise subscription. Ford also announced lower-priced versions of its Raptor and Tremor F-150 models for 2027, along with the return of a V8 engine option for King Ranch and Platinum trims, and a new Carhartt package.
