Apple releases iOS 27 with AI-powered Siri and new features

Key enhancements to Siri include the ability to answer probing questions, engage in longer conversations, and leverage details from both Apple and third-party apps. For instance, Siri can now locate hotel confirmations in emails, retrieve recipes shared via text messages, or input Wi-Fi passwords by analyzing a picture. A new standalone Siri AI app will also allow users to review past conversations across different Apple devices.

Beyond Siri, iOS 27 introduces several new parental controls designed to enhance child safety. Parents can pre-select available built-in apps for new iPhone setups and require children to seek permission before browsing new websites, with requests managed through Messages. Screen Time features have been refined with category-based allowances for entertainment, games, and social media, alongside customizable schedules for app usage. The settings interface for parents has also been redesigned for clarity and ease of use.

Additionally, the update incorporates AI-powered photo editing capabilities. Spatial Reframing allows users to alter the perspective of a photo after it has been captured, offering greater flexibility in post-shot editing. Other AI photo editing tools are also included.

iOS 27 is compatible with iPhone 11 models and later. However, the most advanced Apple Intelligence tools, including the enhanced Siri features, require an iPhone 15 Pro or a more recent model. The update also extends to other Apple platforms, with iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 also being released on the same day. Siri AI is initially available in English, with partial availability in Europe.
