General Motors is set to release updated versions of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks for the 2027 model year, featuring a redesigned user interface. The new interface adopts a more minimalist aesthetic with a black background, aiming to reduce visual clutter. Unlike GM's electric vehicles, these trucks will continue to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing users to cast their phones to the infotainment system. The system offers various display modes, including one with simple dials for speed and RPM, a driver assist display highlighting Super Cruise activation, an off-road mode, and a towing mode. A minimalist view showing only the speed as large white digits is also available, similar to Saab's night mode. A permanent strip at the base of the instrument display will show essential information like fuel level and drive mode. The central infotainment screen, running on Android Automotive OS, will feature a split-view home screen with music and navigation apps, allowing full map functionality within the window. Physical controls for climate functions, including dials for temperature and buttons for fan speed, are retained. GM has also improved app behavior, such as not switching out of the active app when accepting a phone call, and integrated more Android-like notifications and quick actions. The passenger-side infotainment screen will be available, equipped with a polarized filter to ensure privacy. This screen can display streaming content or video via HDMI and can be paired with Bluetooth headphones. It also includes a web browser, with the option to use a smartphone as an input device.
