Bitcoin.com is integrating USDU, a US dollar-backed stablecoin registered with the Central Bank of the UAE, into its self-custodial web and mobile wallet. This integration aims to broaden the distribution of USDU, which is the UAE's first central bank-registered stablecoin and the only Foreign Payment Token registered under the country's Payment Token Services Regulation.
USDU is issued by Abu Dhabi-based Universal Digital, which is also regulated by the Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority to issue fiat-referenced tokens. Initially, users will be able to hold, send, and receive USDU through the Bitcoin.com wallet, with plans to introduce swap and buy-and-sell functionalities via third-party providers later. Bitcoin.com also intends to accept USDU for specific services and facilitate payments between users and merchants across its product offerings, subject to jurisdictional availability.
Launched in January, USDU's integration into Bitcoin.com's wallet follows other recent distribution efforts. In July, Zodia Custody began supporting the stablecoin for its institutional clients, and in August, a USDT-USDU liquidity pool was established on Uniswap to enhance decentralized liquidity.
