United Airlines anticipates receiving enough Airbus A321XLR aircraft to support its planned European expansion in 2027, including new routes to Luxembourg and Ibiza. The airline is upgrading its narrowbody fleet with the new jet, which offers enhanced premium cabin features.
The A321XLR is set to debut with new routes to Europe in December, with five all-new routes planned for 2027. Service from Newark, New Jersey, to Luxembourg is expected to begin in April 2027, followed by Ibiza in May, and Marseille and Valencia in June. Additionally, a route from Washington Dulles to Toulouse is scheduled to start in April 2027.
This new aircraft will replace aging Boeing 757s, primarily on transatlantic routes. The A321XLR's range of up to 11 hours makes it suitable for destinations that may not have enough demand for a widebody aircraft but are too distant for most other narrowbodies.
Inside the A321XLR, passengers can expect a significantly upgraded cabin. The business class features lie-flat beds up to 78 inches long, 19-inch televisions, charging ports, and Bluetooth connectivity, with sliding doors creating private suites. United is also increasing the size of its Premium Plus cabin and offering upgraded coach seats with extra legroom and a self-service snack bar.
