Tottenham Hotspur has significantly boosted their summer spending by completing the signing of winger Savinho from Manchester City, bringing their total outlay to over £320 million. Savinho becomes the fourth player to join Spurs for a fee exceeding £50 million this summer, following Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, and Jan Paul van Hecke. The club has also secured Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Martin Dubravka on free transfers and is reportedly close to signing Omar Marmoush from Manchester City.
The substantial investment comes after Tottenham finished just one place above the Premier League relegation zone in the previous two seasons. The club also appointed Roberto de Zerbi as manager towards the end of last season, making him one of football's highest-paid coaches in an effort to avoid relegation.
Savinho, 22, who now prefers to be known as Savio, cited manager Roberto de Zerbi's influence as a key factor in his decision to move to north London. He expressed happiness and excitement about the opportunity at a "brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world," believing De Zerbi can help him reach the highest level.
Tottenham's spending spree places them behind only Chelsea in terms of expenditure this window, with Chelsea's £117 million deal for Morgan Rogers setting a record for an English player. Despite the significant investment, Spurs began their Premier League campaign with a 3-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday.
