Qantas Airways has reported a significant rebound in demand for flights between Australia and the United States, according to Cam Wallace, CEO of Qantas International and Freight. Wallace stated that the airline is very pleased with the performance of these routes over the last six months and has enough capacity to meet the increased demand.
This resurgence follows a period of weaker international results in the first half of the financial year ending June 30, during which the Australian dollar's softness increased the cost of U.S. trips for customers. Consequently, Qantas had reallocated some capacity to other destinations such as Singapore and Europe.
To cater to the growing demand from American travelers, Qantas is increasing its seating capacity on flights to and from the U.S. This includes reinstating an Airbus A380 service from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth. Additionally, the airline will increase the flight frequency between Sydney and New York via Auckland to daily, in time for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which the U.S. is co-hosting.
