Ukraine tests interceptors against faster Russian jet-powered drones

Ukraine is actively testing multiple interceptor systems to counter Russia's escalating use of advanced jet-powered Shahed drones, according to Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara. These drones, identified as Geran-4 and Geran-5, are capable of speeds up to 600 kilometers per hour, posing a significant challenge to Ukraine's air defenses. Russia has reportedly ramped up production and is launching these drones more consistently throughout the day, rather than solely during overnight mass attacks, aiming to disrupt economic activity.

Adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov noted a substantial increase in drone launches, with 2,500 in August compared to 1,500 the previous month. The urgency to develop and deploy effective countermeasures is high, with Khmara emphasizing the need to scale production to thousands of units. In response to the sustained threat and the impact on daily life, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi highlighted the government's efforts to adapt response mechanisms and find solutions that allow essential services and businesses to continue operating under prolonged air raid alerts.
