Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska said her family's apartment in the Black Sea port city of Odesa was destroyed in a Russian aerial strike on September 12. She posted on social media that the building sustained a "direct hit by a Kalibr cruise missile" and shared images of the destruction, noting that "the only thing that survived was a Roland Garros... towel." Yastremska, who is currently ranked 113th in the women's world singles rankings and reached the semifinal of the Australian Open in 2024, appealed to the Women's Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation to see the images. The attack on Odesa and nearby Chornomorsk on September 12 also injured 37 people, including a baby, and left two people missing, according to Oleh Kiper, the Odesa regional head. Several explosions were heard in the city overnight on September 13.
